AMERICAN FOOTBALL TOP EVENTS, NFL

Top Events of the 2015-2016 NFL Season;

NFL Kickoff Game: The 2015 season started on Thursday, the 10th September, 2015.

The 2014 Super Bowl XLIX champions, The New England Patriots hosted the Pittsburgh Steelers. In this kick off game The Patriots defeated the Steelers, 28-21.

International Series: Three games were played at the Wembley Stadium in London, in the UK.

Two games were played in consecutive weeks for the first time. The Miami Dolphins played the New York Jets on Sunday, the 4th of October, and was the first ever divisional game played in the International Series.

The Jacksonville Jaguars then hosted the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, the 25th October, in the third of four home games for the Jaguars in the International Series.

And Lastly, the Kansas City Chiefs hosted the Detroit Lions on Sunday, the 1st of November.

This became the Lions second  year in the International Series.

Thanksgiving Day games: These games occurred on Thursday, the 26th November, 2015.

For the second season in a row, the AFC was shut out of Thanksgiving, with all six match positions going to NFC teams. As always, three consecutive games were played. The Detroit Lions hosted the Philadelphia Eagles. The Dallas Cowboys hosted the Carolina Panthers. Of special note here is that this was the Panthers' first ever Thanksgiving appearance. The Green Bay Packers hosted the Chicago Bears, and this is where the Packers retired longtime quarterback Brett Favre's No 4 Jersey.

Christmas Eve: The Oakland Raiders played host to the San Diego Chargers on the 24th December, which as we all know is Christmas Eve. This was only the second time that a night game has occurred on Christmas Eve (the first was in 2007) and notably the first time the league has played on a Thursday Christmas Eve. The league has traditionally avoided playing night games on Christmas Eve and has in previous years moved games that would usually play on the night of Christmas Eve to another day of the week. This was however an option that the league chose not to exercise this year and no games were held on Christmas Day either.

The 2015 playoffs; They were opened with the Wild Card play-off round on the weekend of Saturday, the 9th January 2016 and Sunday, the 10th January 2016. The winner of each of the games visited the top two seeded teams in each conference.

The Divisional round games; These were then played on the weekend of Saturday, and Sunday the 16th and 17th of January 2016.

The Conference championships; They were held on Sunday, the 24th January 2016 with the AFC Championship Game and the NFC Championship Game.

The 2016 Pro Bowl; was held on the 31st January, 2016 at the Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii. The game continued the draft format that began in 2014, with Jerry Rice and Michael Irvin serving as the alumni captains. Team Irvin defeated Team Rice 49–27.

The Super Bowl 50;  This epic game decided the 2015 NFL Champion and was played at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California on Sunday, the 7th February, 2016. The Levi stadium is considered to be the greenest and most technologically advanced professional football stadium in the United States. The NFL champions 2015-16 are the Denver Broncos with a final score of 24 vs the Carolina Panthers 10.

This, is the most anticipated game in America and virtually brings the USA to a standstill as the seasons current top two American football teams clash in an epic and gladitorial game which decides the Champions of the current NFL season.
