Top 10 Major Rugby Events

Because Rugby is played in so many countries, there is the opportunity to bet on plenty of matches, especially in league play.

There are major events which attract both avid and casual rugby fans.

Listed below are 10 of the Top International Rugby Events;

Rugby World Cup:

This is a tournament organised by the International Rugby board, this tournament is held every four years.

The Winners are awarded the "William Web Ellis" Cup. The next World Cup will be held in 2019.

The Aviva Premiership :

This is the English provincial premiership and currently known as the Aviva Premiership due to it's sponsorship.


The Challenge Cup :

This is a competition for rugby clubs and organised by the Rugby football league.

Originally it was competed for by British teams alone but in recent years has been expanded to allow teams from France and Russia to participate as well.

The Six Nations:

A European based competition of the following National teams;

England, Scotland, Wales, France, Italy (who were admitted in 2000) and Ireland.


The Four Nations:
and now called The Castle Rugby Championship.



An annual and fierce competition between four countries of the Southern Hemisphere the countries being South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and Argentina. Argentina joined the competition in 2012. 





The Heineken Cup :

The Heineken Cup started in 1995 and includes England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales.


The Super 14:

This is the biggest Rugby championship of the Southern Hemisphere.

It comprises of provincial teams from South Africa, New Zealand and Australia.

The fourteen sides will all compete against one another.

Each team will play 13 games during the season, the season runs for a total of fourteen weeks.


Rugby 7's:

Rugby sevens, also known as seven-a-side or VIIs, is a variation of rugby in which teams are made up of seven players, instead of the usual 15.

It also has shorter match times.

Rugby Sevens are run by the International Rugby Board (IRB).

Rugby Seven's have now been included as a sport in the Olympic Games in 2016 in Rio De Janeiro.


The Currie Cup:

One of the oldest Rugby provincial tournaments played in the World, it is based in South Africa.


2016 Olympics:

The Olympics which will include Rugby, will be held in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil in 2016
